And I didn’t really understand what it meant then, though I do now and it occurs to me, with the regret of hindsight, that perhaps it isn’t how we acted at the time that counts, but how we would have acted given thought, opportunity and a full account of all the facts.
Perhaps the true measure of a man is in intent based upon reflection, rather than reflexive action.
So now, given account of my mistakes, I see that it is not the ones I would improve upon that are my measure, rather it is the ones I would not.
And the number is alarming
