strange strange night

“Are you fuckin with me? Is this some sick joke? Because I am really stoned and I just cant tell…”

She exhaled in one frustrated puff and assured him for the upteenth time that night that it wasn’t, wishing yet again that he would lay off that crap, at least when she needed him. But she understood where he was coming from. The whole night had some strange dreamlike quality.

Hell HAD actually frozen over, the sky was really green not blue, pigs could fly and her adoring husband, the most loyal guy in the whole world, was really just a lying, cheating fuck like all the rest.

She just sat there for a couple hours completely stunned and needing some solid human form in front of her, to remind her that this strange new world where pigs fly was really the reality. Her illusion of normality just a fantasy that was whipped away suddenly, like the magicians cape, revealing truth too quickly for her mind to perceive.

When she finally left later that night, she was the only one on the road except the ethereal circles of light falling from the street lamps onto the pavement. Then movement caught her eye. A cat was zig-zagging across the access road in front of her next to an old apartment complex that hadn’t changed since she was a child. She stopped confused, wondering at the oddness of its behavior and movements when she realized a small rodent was the object of its undivided attention. The spectacle ended only a few feet in front of her car as the cat pounced, picking the mouse up in its mouth and scampering off quickly in the opposite direction.

Once again she just sat there taking it all in, but this time in the middle of a dark street, as she listened to the silence of her lone engine humming quietly on the now deserted road, while she tried to comprehend the strange world she had stumbled into.
